A Circle of Prayer: Executing Troy Davis

We still kill people in America? In what moral universe does killing a person accused of murder make sense?

A thousand scenarios run through my head where it would be necessary for a society to extricate violent citizens from the rest of the herd for the greater good.. but is murder an acceptable option?

Many claim that it costs too much money to house inmates for life, and that may be a sound argument. The issue is that many upholding that view think its acceptable for people selling marijuana to have lengthy prison stays on the publics dime.

How much longer do we have to support Abrahamic morality and vengeance through our taxes, monies, time, and mutually upheld status quo?

Is this not a Judeo-Christian ethic that is impressing itself upon the the populace? How does a Christian of any denomination overlook the radical 'turn the other cheek' teachings of Jesus and revert to the pre-literate stone-aged Old Testament proverbs of 'eye for an eye'?

In an obviously flawed legal system how can we have the sort of haughty confidence to trust it to weigh the worth of any life? There are also questions here whether the case against Troy Davis was sound enough to convict him. But that won't stop the self-assured 'Christian' masses from cheering the state on as they murder a man who may be falsely convicted of a crime he didn't commit. All they need to see is that a black person got what he deserved for killing a white cop, before they go on with their day of consensus reality, mainstream media, and standardized religious practices.

Am I completely off-base? Let me know in the comments.
