Do superstitions actually do any good?

Study shows that luck generating rituals such as saying'break a leg' or crssing fingers improved certain tests. Why? Confidence.

This is very well understood by manipulators of people such as hypnotists, nlp practitioners, and confidence men. People read your face so you need to have a confident look on it, and confidence in your self leads to more quick and resolute decisions, which equates to higher IQ, as IQ is all about the rapidity of thought.
