Police or Paramilitary Forces? The Militarization of American Law Enforcement



As more and more of the worlds populations agglomerate together in modern metropolises we see a shift in the values and methodologies of it's policing.



Does the scruffy hipster and college student draw the ire of the crowd due to our inculcated dislike of the homeless and underprivileged? What elements of our society are responsible for the enactment of policies which criminalize homelessness and low income? Do people willingly doing without homes while they struggle to fix a society they see as broken draw these same reflexive emotions from militarized police, who some may argue have been conditioned to be status quo supporting soldiers?



In San Diego, my home town, the police department seems to solely recruit former marines, which adds to this perpetuation of a militarized police force. When you add predator drones, machine guns, and LRAD technology into the fold, it paints a picture of a future that would make most uneasy.
