Recent trends in the spirit/science debate is to distance the faith from the putative interpretation of text and core tenets, towards a metaphorical pseudo-science syncretism and PC whitewash.
The rabbe postulates that 'gods chosen' was not a superiority claim over their people. Wasn't it? Oh I see, they were commanded to burn down cities were opposing religion was practiced and kill all the inhabitants so as not to interbreed , but not because they were superior, but because god had chosen them to be ruthless killers.
Apparently the god who unleashes plagues and kills Egyptian children at passover cant burn down cities himself. Oh wait, Sodom and Gomorrah prove that he can and will, right? Plot hole! Anyways...
At the end of the article there is also a comment about Israel being boxed in by violent neighbors who may conspire to end it, and oh, the wonderful persistence it has to try to survive!
